Making it easy to go green

WHILE more and more people adopt environment-friendly lifestyles, it can be confusing, especially if one is not familiar with the many aspects and terms used to describe the green approach.

Taking the first step is not that difficult and it can begin with your next meal when you consciously choose to eat produce that is organically grown by certified growers.

At Country Farm Organics (CFO), the certification and integrity of organic produce are the main values they wish to promote. While there are other suppliers of organic produce on the market, consumers still need to check thoroughly before buying.

Helping hand: Gan will be one of the panelists at the forum.

“There has been an increase in the number of retailers supplying organic produce which signifies a growing market, especially in recent years. But it is also important for customers to ensure they are getting real organic produce,” CFO managing director Selina Gan said.

CFO is one of the panelists on Talking Organics, a forum to introduce a panel of people who will help facilitate an online video series on how to adopt a green lifestyle. Organised by The Star New Media, Talking Organics will take place at StudioV on Sept 5 from 11am to 2pm.

CFO will also be part of the panel to answer queries from online viewers on going green via Live Chat.

The forum is in line with a growing market for and interest in organic produce as well as green lifestyles.

“Over the last five years, we have seen the market for organic produce grow rapidly as people become more health conscious and environmentally aware.

“A big part of our customer base consists of young couples with newborn children who are very particular about their family’s diet,” Gan said.

Walking into CFO may be an overwhelming experience for those unfamiliar with organic produce as its aisles are filled with all kinds of items like honey, cookies, jams, raisins and even rice.

“I would always advise people to start with vegetables. Organic food is definitely a little pricier than normal produce but with the right budget, you can incorporate organic produce into your diet making it more nutritional.

“The easiest way is to start with leafy vegetables like bak choy but it is also important to know that eating organic produce alone does not make you healthier, it must be a combination of the right ingredients and a balanced diet,” Gan said.

“We are looking at opening more retail stores to help widen the reach of organic produce. Another important factor is that we are always trying to look at ways to reduce the costs,” Gan said.

Readers are invited to join the Talking Organics forum on Sept 5. There will be cooking demonstrations and product introductions by Country Farm Organics and Tiny Tapir. Pre-register at a fee of RM30 which includes a goodie bag and organic lunch from CFO. Call Nelsen Ng from The Star Marketing Services Department at 03-76507800 ext 1456 during office hours.
