It pays to be eco-friendly

A BIG misconception that most people have about using eco-friendly products is the high cost and feel that it is too expensive to sustain a green lifestyle.

However, many do not realise that it makes more economical sense in the long run as these last longer.

“People tend to shy away because of the price. “I have been using my water tumbler for the past three years and how many plastic bottles can last that long?

“If you are buying plastic bottles every day, you are definitely spending more that what I have spent in one purchase of the eco-friendly water tumbler,” said Li Chan, founder of Tiny Tapir.

Li Chan: The awareness on going green has been rapidly picking up

Tiny Tapir is one of the panelists on Talking Organics, a forum to introduce a panel of people who will help facilitate an online video series on how to adopt a green lifestyle. It is organised by The Star New Media,

Talking Organics will take place at StudioV on Sept 5 from 11am to 2pm.

Tiny Tapir will be part of the panel to answer queries from online viewers on going green via Live Chat. Also on the panel will be a practitioner of green lifestyle, Dr Lucy Lum and Country Farm Organics.

The forum is in line with a growing market and interest in organic produce as well as green lifestyles.

“The awareness on going green has been rapidly picking up and most people who adopt this lifestyle tend to be very passionate and consistently work on spreading the word.

“This has resulted in many small home-based businesses producing eco-friendly products like soaps and baby carriers,” Chan said.

At Tiny Tapir, there are all kinds of eco-friendly products that can help make your life a little bit more green and sustainable.

There are cloth diapers, cloth sanitary pads, non-chemical based detergent, soaps and plenty of environmentally-friendly utilities for your home.

Diapers, sanitary pads, baby carriers and other cloth-based products can be reused, making it more economical as well as eco-friendly.

“I always advise people to start with the reusable bags and water tumblers. Once you get the groove of it, you will start to think about other ways to cut down on unsustainable consumption in your daily life,” she said.

For Chan, going green is really just a way of going back to basics.

“We have only been using plastic bags for about 40 years and many chemical cleaning agents that we use now are modern creations. Think about how life was for our ancestors when there was not so much pollution,” she said.

Readers are invited to come join the Talking Organics forum on Sept 5. There will be cooking demonstrations and introduction of products by Tiny Tapir and Country Farm Organics (CFO). Pre-register at a fee of RM 0 which includes a goodie bag and organic lunch.
